Celebration to mark 60th anniversary of founding of People's Republic of China
Members of the Hong Kong religious community joined in the celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at the Tsim Sha Tsui BP Hotel on the evening of September 22, 2009. Participants included Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen; Director of the Liason Office for the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Peng Qinghua; and Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing.
A group of six, including Area Presidency First Counselor Kent D. Watson; Area Seventies Sam Wong Chi Hong and Stanley Wan Tak Chung; Area Public Affairs Director George Mak; and Public Affairs Missionaries Elder and Sister Kewish, represented the Church at the ceremony. The Church has been consistently invited to the ceremony in past years. This year is also the 60th anniversary of the Church’s missionary work in Hong Kong. It is the Church’s intention to be more contributive to the Hong Kong community and more well-known among the Hong Kong people.
